About Armstrong Crickets
America's Original Cricket Supplier

The Armstrongs are the originators of America's Cricket Growing Industry. Serving North America since 1947, we've been servicing pet stores and fish bait shops for 60 years!

In 1945 Tal's son, Gene, originated the venture by dropping a few crickets in a bucket with sand on the bottom. Three weeks later he discovered that Mother Nature had provided A.T. Armstrongthe family with a month's worth of live bait! This was an exciting discovery to the Armstrong Family and the elder Armstrong saw an opportunity that no one had seen before. Within a year the elder Armstrong was growing not only crickets but a new commercial industry.

The idea of having crickets, known as "the best" live bait for bream, perch and catfish, year-round, proved to be a very popular one among fishermen all over the South.West Monroe Farm - 1956

Armstrong also soon realized a whole new demand for crickets and worms. As a choice pet food for many reptiles and amphibians: snakes, lizards and frogs. High in protein, live feeders are an important part of herpetological diets.West Monroe 1956

"Even my best friends laughed when I quit a prosperous plumbing business and spent $10,000 to start this new endeavor" he said.

But his ideas and determination paid off and the new business was a success from the start. South Georgia anglers who had spent hours scouring fields for crickets, found it much simpler to buy Armstrong bait.

Until our original farm at Glennville, GA. was started in 1947, there were NO commercial cricket growers on the American scene. Advertising in magazines and newspapers created an additional demand for live bait.West Monroe 1996

The second farm was added at West Monroe, Louisiana in 1954. By 1955 the farm was producing over 20,000,000 crickets a year and hired as many as 21 employees during peak summer months

Throughout the decades the Armstrong's have continued to offer personal customer service and quality products with a live delivery guarantee.Glennville, Ga - 2006

Today of course, many are following in our footsteps in this highly specialized field of endeavor. From our small beginning in Glennville, Georgia, we now boast two of the largest farms in the nation.Jim, Bill, & Jack
